CASSETTE REVIEW: Eww Yaboo “Keep Dreamin’” (Summersteps Records)

I really had no idea what to expect from a band named Eww Yaboo, but it is definitely fun to say.    While both sides of this cassette opened with female vocals, they are also mixed throughout the rest of the songs.    It has a strong Runaways sound to it at the start, but then finds its groove in something a little bit more indie complex such as Pinback.

Within the melodies can be found a lot of fun (not the band, the thing you have) and that can present a tropical island sort of feel.   It also can have some static though and sound like a garage band, which somehow is just as good thought not as seemingly far away.

What I like most about this though is that it has this unrelenting sort of energy and you never know quite where it is going to take you.   It’s part Modest Mouse, part The Hives and a whole lot of awesome.

In terms of punk/rock n roll, it’s the equivalent of taking a super high bouncy ball and throwing it in a confined space:  You don’t know where it’s going to go next but you know it isn’t going to leave the room, and that’s what you love about it.
