MP3 REVIEW: Soon “Soon” (Fort Evil Fruit)

The music of Soon is not so easy to describe, as this is one of those instances where the music in many ways transcends the audio and becomes all too visual.   It begins with static drone and sort of pained screams, but that does turn into this soft, soothing sound such as waves crashing at sea.   What’s more so is that not only does it sound like those waves, but perhaps as if it sounds like the audio is coming straight from a buoy, which definitely puts more of a picture in my head than the thought of comparing this to someone else musically.

There then becomes this sort of singing or chanting almost, which leads us into a pretty melodic piece on the second track with guitar riffs.    Frequency screeches come into play as well, and I am transported out of the ocean, as if I was a seagull on that buoy and I am now being carried away by a hawk.   Gutiar loops and amp buzz give way to an eventual shot at rolling through acoustic guitar chords, complete with haunts and laser whooshes.

With an almost spoken word, sort of distant classicly trained singing bit, we end up with a little Metallica sounding guitar work at the end.   Though this cannot be ended without saying that “Taken by Fixture” has a certain sort of sad tone to it, and perhaps this is one of those tragedies such as “Finding Nemo” without the happy ending.
