MP3 REVIEW: Mahler Haze "Lupus Dei" (Centipede Farm)

This is an older cassette release I found from Centipede Farm, so naturally it is already sold out.  On this one though, we begin with some X-Files type of whirrs and frequencies right away.    There is some tone drone and then it becomes spatial, like we’ve been taken to outerspace.

There are frequency changes, like an alien radio station, and then dark strings come out with that sort of bagpipe/accordion feel to it and all I can think is that “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has conquered the martians.

It gets tingly, and somehow “Lysergic Coronary” gets a little bit melodic (and robots) before we get into the sad drone, static and the overall feeling of a storm at a funeral.    There are haunting synth tones, followed by just blissful moments before heading into electro waves like Megatron.

Before all is said and done, there is static drone ringing ala The Death Star and I’m not entirely certain who this funeral was for exactly, but I know that it was sad and some other factor was there to make it even sadder.
