CASSETTE REVIEW: Wound “Breathing the Void” (Teen Action Records)

When I listen to this Wound cassette, all I can think about is how quiet it seems.  But yet, at the same time, I can't help but thinking about the emotions which it brings out and for something so quiet physically but so loud emotionally seems to take a large toll on me.

This could be described as minimalist, as it is very much the root of sound and it also has the general vibe of something tagged as dark ambient.   It bears semblance to the cracks one would slip through while listening to an instrumental piece by Nine Inch Nails.

Then there is the feel to it-- the general mood can be very off-putting, not in the sense that you don't want to listen to it but in the sense that if this was a person it'd be someone you might not want to be around or at least wouldn't attract a crowd.

Through the distance and the static, “Breathing the Void” manages to create a level of discomfort so as that you don't ever feel at ease whilst listening to it, yet at the same time you are never so put off as to not want to listen to it.
