One
of the first things to stand out about the second disc of “Guilt Mirrors” is
that some of these songs can be rather short, and some can be rather long. The
longer songs are instrumental and there only really a few with vocals in this
distorted beacon of noise. This could
be a supplement to Nine Inch Nails’ “The Fragile”, but it also manages to stand
on its own grounds and merits.
When
thinking about Shocking Pinks putting out a three disc set, you have to wonder
why. If it felt like three separate albums,
then it’d be easy enough to release them individually yet still have them
connected somehow like Green Day did that one time when they got a fourth
member.
The
third song is remixed at the eighth spot, and oddly enough is quite quiet and
brooding, perhaps not the type of song ripe for remixing, but it somehow
works. There is also a song which feature Gemma Syme
and that sounds like a sort of female country/folk song.
These
songs definitely seem to flow well and just tell part of a larger story when
accompanied by the first disc, and though they could stand alone on their own
they are best listened to in one giant adventure. Let’s just hope now that we can go forward
and say the same about the third disc as well.
