INTERVIEW: Damn You Laurie

1)      What do you want people to hear most when they hear your music?

Well, ultimately, we want our listeners to become enlightened and reach eternal bliss and start making balloon animals for the less fortunate. Unfortunately, they'll probably just get sad.

2)      Having music on BandCamp, along with other such platforms in music right now such as SoundCloud, Spotify and others, do you feel that music is moving into a virtual age?  Personally, I fully support the idea of downloading songs for free from BandCamp and then if I like them buying them on vinyl.

Yeah man, we as a band basically do that so like it's dope. BandCamp is a great tool for us (and other unsigned artists) to share our stuff and it's definitely a useful platform that's being used more and more, as are other means of sharing things on the internet. But vinyl is still a good way to show appreciation for the artist and actually receive something physical that's worth the money.

3)      How important of a factor do you feel that record labels play in music these days when pretty much anyone can put their music on the internet as opposed to having to hand out demo tapes at shows, the distribution record labels can offer, etc.   It just seems like it’s a bit easier these days to succeed as a band- and even build up a strong fan base- before a label possibly comes calling for you.

Labels definitely aren't as important as they used to be but they still play a big part in things such as promotion, management and creating physical copies of your music. But a lot of musicians these days don't want to be tied down by labels and their restrictions, while some judge their success on getting signed. We personally don't give a shit about labels because we want to make honest music that is really only for ourselves. Also we're lazy.

4)      If you could tour with any single band or musician who would you pick and why?

Keaton Henson, because he doesn't tour.

5)      Who is your favorite New Kid on the Block?

Upon a recent Google search to find out who the hell any of them are, we chose this guy (Danny Wood):

We as a band think that judging on aesthetics, he embodies everything that Damn You Laurie are.

6)      Who would win in a musical fight: Jack Black or Jack White?
Danny Wood.

(But seriously Jack White).
