SBSR: paul stewart “Permanence”

paul stewartPermanence
<1> “glass skull” – We begin with an acoustic guitar and the singer/songwriter fear sets in.   The vocals kick in and they remind me of Devandra Banhart, which isn’t the worst thing that they could be.   It’s keeping the same higher pitched sounding vocals and acoustic guitar strumming throughout thus far.   No real change.   Of course now near the end I hear the Elliott Smith coming out, but what else is new.   There are some pretty nice closing notes here, but if this doesn’t pick up the pace I’m going to have to move along after the next song.
<2> “horses mouth” -   And this track opens not too much unlike the first.  If you like slow, acoustic singer/songwriter music than this is perfect for you.   If you’ve ever heard Devandra Banhart and feel like that more or less suits all your needs in that area than you are probably me.   Next!
<3> “outpatient”
<4> “hollywood hermit”
<5> “crowd cocoon”
