SBSR: The Watermarks “Run Away EP”

The Watermarks “Run Away EP”
Recently, I’ve been downloading and listening to music like crazy from Band Camp.   This is a review of a group of songs by the same band I got from Band Camp- usually it constitutes an EP.   This is a song-by-song review and it is never to exceed six songs.   At the end, I will tell you the “Recommended Downloading Level”, which means whether or not I think you should spend your time downloading these songs.   It’s on a scale from 1 to 5, 5 meaning that you should stop reading my review and download these songs immediately and 1 meaning that if you even think about downloading these songs your computer will be infected with a horrific bad music virus.   Enjoy.
<1> “Run Away” – We open with some Nirvana “In Utero” era-like feedback coming out and making goosebumps on my arms.    The song kicks into rock with some synth or keys going on with it.   It’s kind of like that band that the guy from Weezer broke off to do and they had that “Friends with P” song.  Remember them?   This song is still a lot of fun with a nice guitar solo riff and the vocals coming back strong.   Sometimes the vocals even remind me of Tears for Fears or that “I’ll stop the world and melt for you” song that was a BK commercial once upon a time.
<2> “Empty Heart” – This opens with a more 1990’s rock type synth beat.    It could be later ‘80’s though, so don’t quote me on that.   We have those fun noises in the background where it’s kind of like ska—kind of like The Hippos even—but not quite the exact same sound.   There aren’t any horns for one thing, but this is still rocking.
Overall, these are two great songs that will introduce you to a band that is equally as awesome.   If you have not yet heard The Watermarks- or even if you have- you need to check out these two new songs from them!
Recommended Downloading Level:  4/5
