Cassette Review: What Tyrants "No Luck" (Forged Artifacts)

Sometimes, like when I listen to "No Luck" by What Tyrants, I want to just be able to simply write "This rocks" and have y'all believe me enough so as that I don't have to go through all of these other words that feel unnecessary to me.   But then I realize that since I've listened to this a bunch of times and am still listening to it then, yes, naturally it does seem as easy to me as to just give you two words (a true testament to how much this does rock as well) but for someone who hasn't heard it yet... Well, yeah, you'll probably need a little bit more information.

With clanky guitars What Tyrants bring out elements of Liars Academy while also the better qualities of a band like The Vines, who I admit to liking to an extent and as far as I am willing to go to like them is how far What Tyrant takes their influence.    The second song oddly enough reminds me a bit of Blondie's "One Way or Another" and that's just one of those rare times when I feel instantly bonded with a band because of that.

The rock n roll orientated songs can also generate punk, fuzz, White Stripes, garage, The Who, Reacharound (Remember them?), The Cars, Cheap Trick, The Clash, ZZ Top and The Romantics.    Is that enough comparisons for you?   Do you find all of those to be suitable to your rock liking?

See, the thing about What Tyrants that differs from any other band (and those bands listed) is that they have the qualities of a particular song by each of those bands on a specific song of theirs.    This gos from the aforementioned Blondie song to "Just What I Needed", "I Want You To Want Me" and "What I Like About You".

So how you should see this is as being this sort of amazing mixed tape or maybe soundtrack (The soundtrack to "10 Things I Hate About You" did come to mind) but yet somehow all of the songs are by the same artist and they all have that own unique quality to make them their own (As opposed to this just sounding like various songs covered by the same band).

I'm not sure that it's going to get much better than thinking of this as a "best of" compilation of various artists only in acuality it is only one artist but if that's a bit too much for you for whatever reason then just go back to my original point: this rocks.
