What
I like about Ak’chamel” is that these two sides contain somewhat similar
sounds, yet they are somewhat opposites of each other in some ways as
well. The title of this cassette- “Fucking
With Spirits”- does also seem to come into play quite a bit and I’m not fully
certain the consequences that await me after having listened to this voodoo.
There
is a solo drum being beaten as we embark on our adventure and then some vocal
chanting which leans more toward the Native American sound than that of any
region of monks. The songs are very
quiet and acoustic at their core, yet they also have this droning going on
behind them that I can’t fully explain.
On many levels, this feels like the title come true if only because it
is to spirits what it would be like to play that high pitched whistle noise for
dogs.
Side
B on the other hand begins with bagpipes, even though the vocals are still
there, humming away. This gives way to an
electric guitar and organ sound, which in many ways just shows that as quiet as
Side A was, Side B is that much louder.
The tape begins to be manipulated before we eventually end on some sort
of spoken language which I can only equate with Star Wars.
