CASSETTE REVIEW: Winter “daydreaming” (self-released)

What was popular when I was growing up on cassette that had female vocals?  Umm… Hole might have had released some tapes, and even The Cranberries, but I only ever owned them on CD.  I remember owning a cassingle for the Murmurs song “You Suck” (Still own it, by the by) and very little else that featured female vocals.

Why was there that awkward period in music history where the mall stars of the 1980’s faded away and seemingly when grunge took over the women took a backseat?   Why has it taken so long for them to finally, slowly start to make their comeback?

Most importantly:  Where were all of these great musicians when I was first getting into music and collecting cassettes because, you know, CDs hadn’t been invented yet?

The music of Winter is between Shannon and the Clams and BFC, but it is a beast all of its own still.   It’s something that you need to hear and really feel like you should be missing a piece of yourself if you’re not listening to it.

But what’s more so is that this fills a sort of void for me, as a pre-teen and teenager, of never having tapes this good until now.  At least my son will not have to suffer the same plight.
