Free to Stream / also available on vinyl
If nothing else, you have to appreciate the fact that these two songs were recorded onto vinyl as a wedding gift for the people attending this particular wedding. It’s supposed to be available to the general public (i.e. people not invited to the wedding, like me) but the Solidarity website currently says it is not available. Hmm…
In any event, Masked Intruder has a sound that crosses Smoking Popes with Bowling for Soup (Yikes!) because their song, which is for the bride-to-be, reminds me an awful lot of “Stacy’s Mom”. It is- at least for me as an outsider- a bit unsettling to hear the band sing about how they’re upset that Valerie is marrying someone that isn’t him. Inappropriate, dude. Though I’m sure they all have some kind of inside joke and are cool with it, but who knows, this might be the kind of thing that comes back to haunt them down the line. (It is also entirely possible that the joke is on me and the frontman for Masked Intruder is actually marrying Valerie, but at this point who the hell knows/cares)
The second track is about Randy, the groom-to-be, who for some reason I thought was named Greg. Anyway… Dan Vapid and company have a pop punk rock sound kind of like The Mr. Experience but not quite entirely.
So the consensus for this 7” from me is that for the bride, groom, all their family and friends or whoever is going to the wedding, this is a great sort of wedding gift, a party favor if you will. For me, and perhaps others who are on the outside looking in, this isn’t really necessary and that’s okay.
