MP3 REVIEW: Blankets / Ivory Weeds Split

Blankets / Ivory Weeds Split
Name Your Price Download

The first three of these five songs are by Blankets while the last two are Ivory Weeds.
Blankets very much reminds me of drone.  They have a very ambient feel to them, which comes out across all of their songs.   They have a repeating guitar loop that makes me think of “Something in the Way”.  Their music is presumably only for the diehard ambient fans.

In contrast, Ivory Weeds has a bedroom acoustic sound ala Homage to Catalonia.   At one point in the first of their two songs the singer begins whistling ala Axl Rose in “Patience”.   O….K.

Overall though, the songs are still quite good and since the split is paired between two bands that don’t really sound alike I find myself enjoying it that much more.
