MP3 REVIEW: SPOOK HOUSES “THE TRYING LP”

SPOOK HOUSESTHE TRYING LP
When I first started really listening to this album, it was late at night and I had started creating this sketch—and it was for the first time in a month or so I had really the chance to make some genuine art.
There are two qualities that come out in the music of SPOOK HOUSES and they are what set the band apart from virtually every other band treading the same line.
On one side, SPOOK HOUSES could be thrown into the same category as Mumford & Sons or some sort of folk band that has popularity right now.    On the other hand, they could be just as easily related to a band that is somewhere along the lines of They Might Be Giants, Marcy Playground or college radio rock.    That’s the great thing about this band though:  They have just enough folk to not be in the same sentence as TMBG but not enough folk to be yet another Mumford clone.
Aside from them having a Buddy Holly-esque song, they also have the most amazing song called “Witching Hour”, which can get pretty heavy in the chorus and reminds me a lot of one of my other favorite bands in Two Gallants.
Overall, yes, this is one of my newest highly recommended bands.
