INTERVIEW: Darlings

1)       What do you want people to hear most when they hear your music?

There's a lot of variety on our new album.  Also, I hope people can
make out some of the vocal harmonies. That's always been one of my
favorite things to listen for in rock/pop songs.

2)
Having music on Band Camp, along with other such platforms in music right now such as Sound Cloud, Spotify and others, do you feel that music is moving into a virtual age?  Personally, I fully support the idea of downloading songs for free from Band Camp and then if I like them buying them on vinyl.

I think music is already pretty far along in the virtual age.
Downloading music makes sense because it's the fastest way to hear
music you're interested in.  But listening to mp3's will never be the
same experience as pulling a record out of a sleeve and putting a
needle on it.
3)      How important of a factor do you feel that record labels play in music these days when pretty much anyone can put their music on the internet as opposed to having to hand out demo tapes at shows, the distribution record labels can offer, etc.   It just seems like it’s a bit easier these days to succeed as a band- and even build up a strong fan base- before a label possibly comes calling for you.

Record labels can be really helpful in that they act as a middle
man for the band and makes the band's life easier.  But if a band can
go online and figure out how to spread their music around successfully
themselves, then they eliminate the middle man.  Which is great, but
it's not always as easy as just throwing your stuff on Bandcamp and
hoping people listen to it.  You still have to figure out creative
ways to get people to listen to you online and care about it.
4)      If you could tour with any single band or musician who would you pick and why?

Probably early Beatles just to see what the hysteria was like.
5)      Who is your favorite New Kid on the Block?

I don't know.. Donny?  I definitely know my favorite New Kids song
though.  It's called "Tonight."
6)      Who would win in a musical fight: Jack Black or Jack White?

If it was a guitar-off, I'd say probably Jack White.  If it was a
physical fight, probably Jack Black.
