CD REVIEW: Fires “Echo Sounds”

FiresEcho Sounds
Throughout the five songs on “Echo Sounds”, Fires displays a sort of pop punk quality that falls somewhere between Ten Foot Pole and NOFX and Ultimate Fakebook and River City High.    They’re not quite as sort of old school or traditional punk rock in the way of an Epitaph band that might have been popular in the time of NOFX or TFP, but they also aren’t quite as poppy as the pop punk of bands like UFB or RCH either.
It their music tended to lean more one way than the other, I probably would simply dismiss them as being a lost leftover band from that genre and move on.   It is the simple fact that neither fully display either of these two qualities (the raw punk and the pop punk) that I simply cannot dismiss them but rather must applaud them for their efforts.
