I picked up this TPB based upon the fact that it looked kind of like a school story with a twist. I’ve read enough manga to know that there do exist stories that straight up just flaunt the drama of going to school, but I was hoping this would be different. At the very least, if it was a rip off of Degrassi or something, I’d just stop reading it after the first issue.
What I came to find was something in between the incredible and disappointment. There are some supernatural factors to this story- such as spirits that can kill- but there is also a lot of the typical school level drama you expect in terms of “I like you, but I don’t like-like you”.
It’s a good starting point for kids to crossover from a safer comic book into a different type of theme, which could open doors for them to other various comic books that can only be described as “out there”.
I would read the second volume if I found it at the library because I feel somewhat trapped in the wonder of the story, but not so much as to the fact that I’d actually go out and pay money to see what happens next.
