At
first, I questioned whether or not listening to a band’s live recording was the
best way to be introduced to them. It
doesn’t have the same feel as a studio recording, yet it also takes something
away from the experience by not being there in person.
Farewood
seems to somehow overcome all of these obstacles within the blink of an
eye. This music is, simply put, amazing
and the crowd claps politely in between each and every song, making you feel as
if you did miss something special by not seeing this show.
On the
whole (to be broad and brief) Farewood combine the slower melodies of a shoegaze
band with the rock n roll style of a band like Live, accompanied with male and
female vocals at different times, and in some ways could be compared to modern
band A*Star. Being live doesn’t take
anything away from the music; if anything it enhances it as two songs sometimes
bleed together into one track which is just genius in its simplicity.
The one
thing that Farewood has done on this release is not only made me a fan of their
music, but they’ve also made me really intrigued by their live show. Those two things are hard enough to do
separately, so pulling off such a feat at the same time is quite
remarkable.
