CD REVIEW: Feist Metals (Cherrytree/Interscope)

Feist Metals (Cherrytree/Interscope)
If after four albums you have not yet heard of Feist, let me tell you about the sound of this music the best that I can.    First off, the vocals are primarily female.   They are sung over this somewhat elaborate mixture of indie rock, folk, blues, jazz and orchestra.
At times this album can sound like a woman singing in a smoky bar, the way you probably most picture Jessica Rabbit, and at other times it can sound like Billie Holiday.   “A Commotion”  has a really kind of out of place little chant going on in the background, but the rest of these songs are all pretty much what you come to expect from Feist and they all happen to be rather good.  I particularly enjoy “Bittersweet Memories” because of all the songs with the sort of depressing lyrics that one seems to stand out the most.
This is a great album to put on if you want to lie around and drink wine on a lazy summer afternoon (or maybe a cold winter day, I don’t know I kind of forgot what winter is like).    It reminds me of what I always think Adele sounds like but then I realize that this is actually much better (Not to take anything away from Adele).   “Undiscovered First” gets a sort of funky guitar riff going that just shows you the diversity this album has while remaining essentially the same eclectic mixture of musical sounds.
