CD REVIEW: Sun Gutter/See Fairer split (Captain Crook Records)

Sun Gutter has a ska punk quality to their music and though they often scream it like they mean it, there are also some well sung vocals too.   At the roots it is punk rock, even though there can occasionally be the rockabilly sound coming through as well.   It reminds me of something like Big Mistake before it takes that sort of country turn and brings out more of Against Me! or Lucero.

See Fairer on the other hand is an acoustic sort of pop act that has vocals reminiscent of Neon Trees.  It is melodic at heart and if the subgenre hasn’t already been created, this is definitely folk pop punk.

Two pretty neat bands worth listening to in the way that I did when I first started reviewing music.   Yeah, it takes me back.
