CASSETTE REVIEW: Miley Cyborg “ep 1.0”

What begins with an acoustic guitar and vocals quickly becomes a full onslaught of a band with vocals.   For some reason, the first name that pops into my head when I hear this is Chris Cappello, though there are also hints of The Early November and on one song it’s even got that “American Idiot” ballad/anthem feel to it.

This is somewhere between pop punk and emo at its roots, yet it also has that teenage angst that has fueled so many musical revolutions and other such movements as well.   As someone who looks back at their teens not fondly, I can appreciate what this is about from a nostalgic standpoint, but then those who are actually this age should be able to appreciate it as being from their point of view.

Songs about heartbreak will never get old, even if you find love, and as such songs about being young and angry will never tire for me, even if I am older now and less angry than I was back then.   I also really do enjoy the shoutouts to Larry the Cat.
