CASSETTE REVIEW: Chaperone “Reflex_Contaminant” (Vague Audio Tapes)

Chaperone sounds like the name of a college indie rock band.   Luckily for me and all of us involved in this, that couldn’t be further from the truth, though I am kind of curious as to how they got their name and why it doesn’t seem to fit this genre.

These five songs span from ambient synth to static drone and they are all mostly done in loops as well.   One of them does have an audio clip, but I’m not entirely certain what is being said and that’s always been okay.

What I like most about Chaperone (misleading name be damned) is that they sound a lot like the music I am currently listening to the most on cassette- and on paper, they have the same characteristics- but yet, they have this something more, this something different that separates them from the pack.

Not only is Chaperone a true testament to this ambient drone genre of music, it should be a note to the entire music community that you can be within the same genre as other artists without sounding exactly like them.
