MP3 REVIEW: Werewolves in Siberia “Beyond the City of the Dead” (Graveyard Calling Horror Records)

The sounds of Werewolves in Siberia tread lightly between synthwave and video game.   There is a certain Sega Genesis style to these songs, which also can contain New Order type drum beats.  The energy of Nine Inch Nails is present here, with an overall sound of perhaps Makeup and Vanity Set.

It gets pretty heavy and scary on a song like “The Woods”, but then also can have an arcade game feel like Fatal Fury.  Brooding beats, Undertaker type gongs and the lasers begin singing the song now.

There are officially ten songs on here and then the last five are all different remixes of “Broken Souls”, which is a nice added bonus when you think about it.  I don’t know how that would play out on the cassette exactly- I’m assuming it would just be the five songs per side and you’d only get the bonus five as a download, but don’t quote me on that.
