MP3 REVIEW: Appendixes “Live at KDVS”

It is very rare for me to fall in love with a band within the first five seconds of my hearing their music, but I did exactly that with Appendixes and what’s more remarkable is that this is a live album.

Sometimes the best way to be introduced to a band is not by a live recording, but this one is right on.   In fact, other than the times the singer talks to the crowd and you can hear some clapping in between songs, this has a definite studio sound quality to it.

The songs are somewhere between indie rock, shoegaze and, yes, even country.   There is a guitar riff in the first song and variations of it throughout some other songs that sounds like it could be out of an old western movie, such as when a dual is about the occur.   The real kind of showdown at the O.K. Corral.

It’s not quite Mazzy Starr and it’s not quite The Cranberries, but Appendixes do have what I like to call that good version of Sheryl Crow in their music and for that I think you will also enjoy them.
