Everybody Talks "L'appel du

My
gripe of the day: Putting your band
under a false genre on Band Camp. It
happens all the time, yes, and I have been a victim of it before. (We all know June 1974 isn’t shoegaze, yet
they keep coming up under that tag) So
my question is… why? Forget about how
certain websites have filters where you can report such instances while Band
Camp doesn’t, because I don’t want to have to file a report with Band Camp to
let them know that some band is misrepresenting themselves. But what is in it for the band?
If
you’re a metal band, for example, and you put yourself under pop, do you think
kids searching for music that like Justin Bieber are going to be excited to
hear your rendition of GWAR? Or is it
just some big internet hoax, where the band can say, “Haha, this many people
played our demo and they all thought it was country when it was really hip
hop. Boy did we fool them!”.
In
any event, in a game that has no clear winner and only losers, I present to you
a band called Everybody Talks, who came up when I searched for grunge yet they
so clearly are not. They combine some
old Saves the Day with, you guessed it, newer Saves the Day, which if I do the
math correctly means they missed their calling by about fifteen years.
