Low Culture “s/t” (Rad Girlfriend Records)
Recently, I’ve been downloading and listening to music like crazy from Band Camp. This is a review of a group of songs by the same band I got from Band Camp- usually it constitutes an EP. This is a song-by-song review and it is never to exceed six songs. At the end, I will tell you the “Recommended Downloading Level”, which means whether or not I think you should spend your time downloading these songs. It’s on a scale from 1 to 5, 5 meaning that you should stop reading my review and download these songs immediately and 1 meaning that if you even think about downloading these songs your computer will be infected with a horrific bad music virus. Enjoy.
<1> “Georgia” – My initial reaction to this band was that they sound like Jughead’s Revenge and this song is why. I mean that as quite a compliment though, as Jughead’s Revenge was one of the first sort of punk bands that were non-mainstream I began listening to and buying all of the music I possibly could.
<2> “I Didn’t Know” – This song is a bit slower, but still has that Jughead’s Revenge sound to it. Excuse me for not typing a lot, as I’m just really enjoying this because I didn’t think they made bands like this anymore. I knew the punk band that was really fast and brief still existed and I know there is still pop punk, but I thought this in between faded away.
<3> “Nervous Wreck” – And here is a minute long song that’s quite fast and reminds me more “The Quickening” era Vandals than Jughead’s Revenge. Still a fun song.
<4> “Travel Song” – This has a bit different of a sound to it than the first two songs. It’s kind of like 22 Jacks in ways and other bands along those lines. It’s still a nice accompaniment to the first three songs and I’d definitely enjoy hearing a full length from Low Culture.
Recommended Downloading Level: 3.5/5
