SBSR: Lotus Effect “Rabbits and Royalty”

Lotus Effect “Rabbits and Royalty”
Recently, I’ve been downloading and listening to music like crazy from Band Camp.   This is a review of a group of songs by the same band I got from Band Camp- usually it constitutes an EP.   This is a song-by-song review and it is never to exceed six songs.   At the end, I will tell you the “Recommended Downloading Level”, which means whether or not I think you should spend your time downloading these songs.   It’s on a scale from 1 to 5, 5 meaning that you should stop reading my review and download these songs immediately and 1 meaning that if you even think about downloading these songs your computer will be infected with a horrific bad music virus.   Enjoy.
<1>  “Warhol” [4:36] – First off, this song says “Warhol” a lot and every time I think it’s really “Warthog” because in the context of the lyrics that just makes so much sense.    Terms like heavy rock come to mind when listening to this song.   It has the somewhat complex guitar notes played like System of the Down and at other times it sounds like the better parts of Chevelle, at least musically.
<2> “Mercucio” [4:43] – And here we open with that metal sounding guitar riff I like.    The music is rocking and the singer can belt it out, but some of the lines in the lyrics just leave me wondering why they were written, such as restating the cliché that hindsight is 20/20.
<3> “Fireflies” [5:34] – No, this is not going to be a cover of the Owl City hit.   This starts off somewhat slower, but it’s got that slower rock lead in that makes it sound like it’s going to kick in hard.   Now we have the singer belting out the chorus and apparently this is a ballad.   It does kick in, but just with that power rock ballad idea.   This is so metal it’s not even funny.
<4> “Simple Pages” [5:29] – I like the opening guitar work a lot.  We have a fast paced set and it’s rocking.
<5> “Fireflies (acoustic)” [5:00] – To be fair, this isn’t really acoustic because there is a piano.  Okay, okay, don’t beat me up.
I really do like these songs and anyone a fan of metal/rock/heavy rock type of sound that just flat out rocks but doesn’t sound like what you hear on the radio (Yeah, this is not like Three Days Grace or Creed or what have you) so it’s definitely worth a listen.
Recommended Downloading Level:  3.5/5
