This rather odd story takes a look at the inner workings of perhaps one of the most intriguing places in not only all of the DC Universe, but perhaps all of comic books as well. While I’m not a huge fan of DC themselves, I do enjoy certain aspects of them and this is just one of those things that’s weird enough that it doesn’t feel like a full on DC comic book at all.
Our story mainly revolves around the one lady who is a housekeeper or some such thing inside the craziest place in Gotham. We get to see many different villains from the pages of Batman, while also seeing some of the other employees who are both heroes, villains, idiots and just your average working Johnny Paycheck.
I would actually love it if someone made a “reality television” show ala Big Brother only made it about Arkham Asylum and it looked something like this. I would watch that no questions asked.
<SPOILERS>
The big letdown of this book is that you expect something major to occur throughout the pages, but at the end it just seems like another day at the grind. I expected for either the main character to be killed off, her family to be held hostage or just something more to come out of the bleeding clock, but alas, I am left feeling the way that I felt after watching the movie Inception: wanting more because it didn’t seem like it accomplished much.
Although this comic book was a lot better than that movie I mentioned up there. It was just neat to be able to go into such a place and, as I’ve said before, there isn’t really anywhere else like this within the whole world of comic books, so it kind of stands out as something worth reading.
