MP3 REVIEW: Under the Wire “existential” (Patetico Recordings)

                Under the Wire is a band that is capable of many things.   One thing they do exceptionally well is take what you think of them, mash it up and then spit it back out at you.    This album begins as a synthpop sort of upbeat Weezer type of jam.

                I’m into it, and I’m feeling it, thinking that I’ve figured it out, when all of a sudden they get into almost some sort of hip hop vibe.  It’s not quite Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, but it is funky.   Then it becomes high energy synthpop before showing that they can even do things instrumentally. 

                By the fifth song, we are back to where we started.  I wasn’t sure what kind of ride this band was taking me on exactly because once I thought I had them figured out they pulled me in another direction.  I was unsure as to whether or not they would continue down that road of hip pop or go off in some other direction completely.

                One thing I did not expect was for this to go full circle, but it kind of did and I like it.   This is just some great music that will catch you off guard.
