SBSR: Sleep Maps “Medals”

Sleep MapsMedals

<1> “The Final Weapon” – This song opens with an audio clip about Vietnam.  The music accompanying it has a great build and really just demonstrates the importance of the words being spoken.   Let’s see if vocals kick in.  Nope.  Near the three minute mark, more of the same audio about Vietnam.   All right, after three minutes now it’s picking up and getting a bit heavier.  I like this in a Guns n Roses sort of way.  Is Slash in this band?   DOUBLE BASS DRUM!!  Five and a half minutes in and this song is still holding strong.   It’s almost like three mini songs right now.  Wow, that song was almost seven minutes long!

<2> “Blackout Eyes” – More audio clips about Vietnam over background music.   This is either going to be really good or get really old really fast.    Closing in on four minutes and the musical part of this just doesn’t have the same passion as the first song. For a six minute song, that felt like twenty minutes.

<3> “The Heavens Gaze Empty” – More of the same.  Let’s see if these audio clips on Vietnam end up paying off.   Well, we’ve kicked in pretty nicely after the speech of the medals being garbage.  Almost four minutes and we’re calming down a little for more talk.   It kicks back in a bit before ending, but yeah…

There is supposed to be a fourth bonus song I didn’t get with this download, but that’s okay.  Unless you really have a thing for instrumental light metal that has audio clips about hating the Vietnam War mixed into it, then this probably isn’t for you.  I’m not really sure that genre appeals to anyone, but if it does then this would be for you.   Not so much for me, but maybe it’d be on Frank Castle’s iPod?
