CD REVIEW: The Black Keys “El Camino” (Nonesuch)

The Black Keys “El Camino” (Nonesuch)
I don’t understand the hype behind The Black Keys.    Their fourth song sounds like “Stairway to Heaven” and their fifth song on this album is nothing but a rip off of Stone Temple Pilots.    They have that sort of bland rock ‘n’ roll quality that does nothing to help them stand out and in reality isn’t even that close to being rock ‘n’ roll.    When it comes to bands like this, at least Kings of Leon have some passionate vocals and catchier hooks.
Overall, The Black Keys remind me of this one band that was supposed to be the next big thing at SXSW the first year that SXSW became big and was covered on Mtv and everything.   I’m too lazy to look up the name of that band or try to search the files in my mind to find it buried back them somewhere with Remy Zero.    But I bet in time that is what will happen to The Black Keys—they’ll just be a forgotten name with a lot of mainstream love that didn’t play out well.
